In a stroke of genius, Southey had the Great, Huge Bear, the Middle Bear, and the Little, Small, Wee Bear speak in appropriately sized type. The story ends with the old woman jumping out the window, never to be seen again. Southey described the story as one he had heard as a child from his uncle. Among those was "The Story of the Three Bears." This is, in some ways, more like modern Goldilocks. For years, Goldilocks was believed to be a literary creation by a single author. Goldilocks and the Three Bears is one of the most famous fairytales today.
